seven years experience as a contractor in Rockland County we would be pleased
to provide you with referrals to OTHER REPUTABLE contractors here in the

Why do I
need a roof, if it's not leaking?
Your roof has a limited life span, and to exceed that will only
lead to bigger and more expensive repairs or replacement. For example,
shingles that are exposed to the elements beyond their normal life span
may have the edges curled. Once this occurs, the existing shingles may have
to be removed which is a more costly roof job. Another way to tell if you
need a roof is whether or not your neighbors are getting their roofs replaced.
Your homes were built about the same time and should need replacement at
around the same time - this is not always true but is a good indicator.

My
roof is only 15 years old, don't roofs last 20-25 years?
Yes, the newer
roofing materials (fiberglass roof shingles) will last 20-25 years, but
15 years ago it was common for the roofer to install an asphalt shingle with a warranty life
of only 15 years Today, with the technology of newer materials no one even makes a 15 year shingle.
Most companies start with a 20 year shingles and go up in warranty life from there.

Can I put
the roofing job off for a few years?
Possibly. Get that answer from a reputable roofing
contractor who should be able to tell you that you may have 2 to 4 years
left. Now, with the advance notice, start saving for the roofing job.
Don't lump together the expense of a roofing job with college tuition for
three kids or any other large expense that is foreseen in the next few
years.

What color
roof should I get?
This is a very
good question but it is also a personal one. A professional roofing contractor
will provide you with color samples from the manufacturer- use the samples
as a guide but ask the contractor if he can send you to a house
where that color roof is installed. Small samples sometimes are hard
to visualize. Model A Roofing
with over 27 years in business literally has thousands upon thousands of
customers homes to send you to.
[Top]
What color
will last longer than another?
Lighter colors
usually last longer. But they may not look good on your home. I usually
go for the appearance and not how long the roof lasts....easy for a roofer
to say!

Who does
the work?
Model A Roofing's goal over 27 years ago was to supply a service with the highest possible standards at a reasonable
cost. Although I no longer nail the shingles down I still maintain strict
adherence to quality control and high standards for every job. Model
A Roofing's employees are trained by me and must adhere to my standards.
All jobs require my on-site inspection.

How much
of a deposit do you require?
In most cases
deposits are not required.
[Top]
How long
does the job take?
Once we have
started work on your home, that work is not interrupted until it is completed -
weather permitting. When your job is scheduled it is the only job for that
crew until completion.

What
is the best way to check references?
Any one can
give you the name of the only satisfied customer they ever had. Ask the
contractor for the name and location of a job they did last week and see
how satisfied that customer was. Then ask for some work that they had done
a few years ago. Make sure the contractor is licensed. in your town or
county (his License is a huge lever should you need it). Consumers Protection
is a good place to check for the following: How long has the
company been in business under the same name? How many complaints do they
have against them and what type of complaints? Are they always the same
complaints? Did the contractor fail to show up after the job was completed for
repair work? Most importantly, how long did it take for the contractor to
satisfy the complaint?

How do I
know you are a good contractor?
The most frequent
mistake homeowners make, because it takes some time, is that they don't
check the contractors references. Model
A Roofing has been the same company
for over 27 years. Not only do we strongly recommend that the home owner check
our references we are extremely proud of the work we have done over the
years so check it out!
Rockland County Consumer Protection
55 Sanatorium Rd Bldg. P
Pomona, NY 10970

is an excellent resource
for the following information: How long has the contractor been
in business under the same name? Has the contractor had complaints levied
against him? What were those complaints, and were they resolved? Most importantly
how long does it take to get resolved. Does there appear to be a consistent
problem with the contractor.

What will
my insurance cover?
Most insurance
companies will pay for interior damage to the home caused buy a roof leak.
They may or may not cover the roof repair- it depends on what caused
the leak- commonly, it would be covered if a branch or something
else put a hole in your roof or wind damage. With over 27 years experience
working with both the home owner and their insurance providers Model
A Roofing is well positioned to help
advise on a case by case bases.

agencies advise that a home owner should always consult their insurance
provider to find out what is actually covered under their specific policy.
Only the home owner loses if they assume the damage is not covered.

Why should
I hire a professional roofer and not a handyman?

a plumber to do an electrical job? Experience and an understanding
of the ever changing technology of roofing systems is absolutely necessary.
